Next up in the series is one that Dad found for us and brought when he came out to visit: Sam Adams Winter Lager. Except for its slightly higher alcohol content (5.5%), I could see this being a nice session beer–it was smooth, with enough bite from the carbonation and spices to keep it interesting. As with many of the other winter beers, malts and spices reigned here rather than hops (which is fine by me). This beer had less complexity than some of the others I’ve tried this year, but also a smoothness I didn’t find in some of the other beers. A fine accompaniment to our wonderful dinner and conversation.
